My Ultimate Guide to Hair Products

Okay, so you're walking the isles of Target, reading the description on every bottle, and you're only supposed to pick one?! Nonsense. We've all been there. "My hairstylist says I should use a heat protectant, but there's literally FIFTY here to choose from.."

I've got you.

First things first, Target, Walmart, Walgreens and other big buyers are not authorized sellers for salon professional products. (Yes, I know. I have a serious Target obsession too, but I refuse to buy hair products from there) As a licensed cosmetologist, we literally have to sign a document at Cosmo Prof, a verified professional product distributor, that states we promise to not sell to these buyers. With that being said, these can be either stolen or upcharged products that who knows what is actually in them.

Second, Pantene, Garnier Fructis, Tresemme, and other NON professional product brands are formulated with parabens, sulfates, and fromaldehydes, and other waxes that coat your hair. Check out this image of a hairstylist's sheers that scraped the hair of a client who has been using these brands...

Professional products can be found at reliable sources such as Ulta or Sephora, BUT can we all just support our local salons and purchase from them?! PLUS, you also don't have to wonder the stores reading the back of the bottles and cans...You get your own regimen from someone who went to school for this. :)

These are my go-to, everyone can use, all time favorite products that I use everyday in the salon! I narrowed it down to 3 products because my list was getting out of hand...yes, I'm a product junkie...

1. It's A 10 Leave In Conditioner

This. Stuff. Is. Amazing. I recently bought this for my year old niece...Who's hair is down to her butt, fine, and curly and whines that Dad brushes her hair too hard. My brother sent me a message this morning that said "That spray is a godsend." :) #NailedIt Use 5 or so sprays all over towel dried hair after washing, and use as a detangler to seamlessly brush hair out. It adds moisture and shine, protects from heat and environmental factors, and strengthens the hair. Seriously. You will be addicted.

2. Matrix Oil Wonders

This oil is my go to for all hair types to help smooth frizzies, protect, and add light weight shine to the hair. The Egyptian Hibiscus Oil works to restore vibrancy to colored hair, while the Indian Amla Oil is best for dry or damaged hair. I will typically use 1 pump on short/fine hair and 2 on long/thick hair.

3. Goldwell Body Pumper Volumizing Mousse

This is a really well rounded and easy to use mousse that works on every hair type! It's light weight formula adds body and volume to hair while keeping it soft. Overall it's a great "general" volumizing product to use that doesn't get crunchy (Let's all picture the 2000's Justin Timberlake Ramen noodle hair...). I almost always use 4 pumps of this mousse, work it in my hands really well, and then apply by coming my fingers through the hair focusing on the roots.

Have any favorites you can't live without?? I'd love to hear what they are!

Stay tuned for more tutorials and posts to come!
